Understand how Click Elevate measures whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude are actually citing your business — and what your monthly citation scores mean.
LLM Citation Tracking is Click Elevate's system for measuring your real AI visibility — not an estimate, but live data from the actual AI platforms your customers are using.
Each month, we send your selected target prompts to four major AI platforms: ChatGPT (OpenAI), Perplexity AI, Google Gemini, and Anthropic Claude. We parse each response and check whether your business name or website domain appears in the answer. The results become your monthly citation scores.
Step 1 — Your selected prompts are the test queries. The prompts you choose in the Prompt Targeting section are the exact questions we send to each AI platform. This is why choosing the right prompts matters — they are both your optimization targets and your measurement instrument.
Step 2 — Each prompt is sent to all four platforms. We send every selected prompt to ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude independently. Each platform may respond differently to the same query.
Step 3 — We check for your business in each response. Our system scans each AI response for your business name and website domain. If either appears, that prompt counts as a citation for that platform.
Step 4 — Citation rate is calculated per platform. If you have 5 selected prompts and ChatGPT cites you in 2 of them, your ChatGPT citation score is 40%. This score is shown on your dashboard.
Step 5 — Share of Voice is the average. Your Share of Voice score is the average citation rate across all four platforms. It is the single number that best represents your overall AI visibility.
| Score | What It Means | |---|---| | 0–20% | AI platforms are not aware of your business for these queries | | 21–40% | Emerging presence — some platforms are starting to cite you | | 41–60% | Solid visibility — you are appearing consistently on at least 2 platforms | | 61–80% | Strong presence — you are a recognized authority for these queries | | 81–100% | Dominant — AI platforms consistently recommend you for these queries |
Each AI platform uses different training data, retrieval systems, and citation logic. It is normal for your ChatGPT score to be higher than your Perplexity score, or vice versa. Our optimization work targets the signals that all four platforms share — schema markup, authoritative content, citation consistency — so improvements tend to lift scores across all platforms over time.
Citation tests are run monthly, at the start of each new month, using the prompts you selected in the previous month. You will see updated scores in your dashboard within 24 hours of the test running. You can also ask your account manager to run a manual test at any time.
